Once upon a Time: IPPL Art Contest

This summer, we held Indian Prairie Public Library’s first ever public art contest to celebrate our 30th anniversary. We asked local artists to explore how reading can introduce new ideas, information, and dreams through visual art.

Over 26 individual pieces were submitted, which a panel of judges then reviewed on the basis of artistic skill as well as how each artist interpreted the theme and incorporated it into their art. The chosen 17 finalists were then invited to display their work in the library’s upstairs gallery space throughout the month of August. At the end of the month, a reception was held, announcing the top three winners.

The IPPL Foundation & Friends generously provided funding for the prize money distributed to the first, second, and third place artists, as well as sponsored an Art 101 lecture presented by art historian Jeff Mishur.
